My digital photo album

My name is Indy. I like taking photos. They do not have to be 'good'. But they should be fun! I have galleries for my Revueflex SLR, Canon Legria FS306, Kyocera keitai phones, and Nintendo DS systems.
When I had a smartphone, I did not like taking photos. When I got rid of it, photography became a fun hobby for me. The smartphone photo album was not a pleasant place, but a wasteland of junk image files. Share to friend. Upload to social media. Push notification- Look back on your photos! Don't put your phone down! Here is an album we made of all your 'memories' with each friend in your gallery. Don't ask what else we do with this facial software. Airbrush your face. Fix your nose. Digital makeup. Thousands of photos in random aspect ratios.
Since taking photos on other cameras, I suddenly have beautiful fun memories of the life I am living. Maybe this is a feature of the camera as a medium. Maybe i am just spending less time on my phone.
I began shooting 35mm on a reusable disposable type point and shoot. I enjoyed looking back on my photos every month after getting them back from the lab to see what turned out and what memories I had made. I never looked back on my smartphone photographs. Taking the photos on my smartphone would often pull me out of the moment and ruin the experience anyway. Since shooting film, I remember my life in much more detail than ever before, and have felt far more self-actualised through the hobby. I now shoot on an SLR which offers far more control than the disposable, and ruins far less exposures. I cannot tell you much about this SLR; it takes nice photos with adjustable focus and exposure and has a nice all-rounder lens. There is a culture in film photography I find unpleasant, elitist, toxic and a bit male-dominated. I am averse to these attitudes, I have no takes on a perfect photo, the best camera, 'good' or 'bad' photography, I am here simply because I enjoy it and the hobby makes me happy. I love my SLR but I feel uncomfortable to wear it over my neck, I worry I look like a tourist, or worse, someone who wants to mansplain cameras to you. I still get the worry that a camera can be an obstruction between its user and the moment, but the entire premise of this pastime was to be purposeful in photography and one can purposely avoid this. Seeing so many peers get into film as well, I have to celebrate the high-end auto-focus auto exposure pocket sized point and shoots I see. I'd recommend these to anyone yet to pickup the pastime.
A photo is not the only way to capture a memory. I have always enjoyed video editing. After playing with 35mm for a long time, I also picked up a 2000s camcorder to shoot video on, and carry one or the other when I can. The optical zoom on this device is incredible, far outpacing any zoom practical to hold the camera still. A fun feature of this camcorder I have discovered, is to hold it above me in a crowded venue or concert, and use it like a perescope, to see things very far away over peoples heads. It can shoot slightly above 480p, which is perfectly viewable and has plenty of retro feel. still images up to 1024x768. The built in microphone is very decent, and can record concert audio without peaking (so far). At this stage, I have not made any films that I want to share with the world wide web.
Carrying a big camera around can be annoying. I always try and have my flipphone on my person. Naturally, a crunchy flipphone snap is the easiest, and sometimes all a moment needs. These are each modern phones, with fairly decent cameras. The display on each of these devices is far less than the maximum image quality. I have been taking photos in 'wallpaper' resolution, matching the screen size of the display. This has produced extra crunchy photos but has entertained me deeply. Besides, with crunch, they look more like memories.
As above, sometimes I do not carry a camera but I have my Nintendo DS on my person. It is extra fun to take a photo on a DS, and the camera is quite decent considering what it is.
